Hi there. Just started with a small (<20 employees) company. All their IT/telcom support came from a "twoguysinagarage.com" outfit. Of course, no documentation to be found anywhere around here.

I'm trying to do some things on the Legend and have honestly never seen/used one.

I ordered a 355A part in hopes that I can adminster this monster from a PC.

Now what?

From reading through here, it appears that I should be able to connect to a PC ... SERIAL-DB9/DB25-355A-Cat5-ADMINport and do my thing.

Do I need special software? What is this WinSPM? Where can I download/buy it? When I try to do a direct cable connection to the ADMIN port, 1200/8/n/1, nothing happens. It says connected, but no menus or anything.

When I connect using just a 9pin serial to the 9pin COMM port on the 007 MLM blade, it connects and prompts for a SYSTEM PASSWORD. I dunno what THAT is. Based on conversations I've seen here, I tried "craftr4", but that didn't work.

I'll pay what I need, or download what I need. I just need a few helpful guiding hints.

Thanks 10^6!

Daryl, you cannot admin the Legend from a PC without some sort of SPM interface. Try an online supplier for that one. In its absence, you can do it from the MLX-20 phone plugged into the first MLX port, (farthest left, bottom port). The voice mail system is admined through a touch tone interface from any phone on the system. For documentation you can go to Avayadocs on the web.

i use a D8W line cord to 355AF adapter to a db 25 to 9 pin ,hook to serial port ,instruct to com port ,you will need either SPM or Winspm to communicate

Okay... D8W... just uses pins 1-5, right? 1-6? A standard ethernet patch cord should work jsut fine, right? RJ45 interfaces on both ends... all pins are straight through...

I just found WinSPM version 2... installed... working through the patches for now...

The ADMIN port, just below the SMDR on the processor blade, right? This is where I plug everything together?

Thanks for your help both publicly and privately... this is making mroe sense :)

Right-oh...

I'm in... Downloaded WinSPM v2, patched to 3... patched to 4... upgraded to 5.. patched to 6 then patched to 7

Connected to the unit... saw some info... but, I got a pop-up window that said something to teh effect of...

"The Unit you are attached to doesn't support Quick Access... you need to update to at least version 6..."

Will I find an FAQ somewhere on updating the Legend to v6? When I was connected, the banner at the bottom said that the software on the Legend was Release 5.0 v10.0 or something similar to that...

The popup is OK, it just means that the Legend is kinda' old, and the "quick-access" menus won't work within WinSPM, but you will still be able to program through the "standard SPM" interface, which emulates the MLX-20 phone on the screen.

As far as connecting to the 007MLM's serial port, you can't program it, but you can capture the current configuration report to find out how the automated attendant and mailboxes are set up. Use the serial number as the password.
