I have 2 pcs both running Win 2000 Pro. I installed SQL server Developer Edition on one of them and SQL Server Client Components on the other.
When I try to register the server thru the client PC I get the message, "Login failed for user 'xyz'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL server connection."

I have created login 'xyz' in the server PC and it works fine from there.

Any ideas as Im a total newbie with severs installation?

Hi,

When you set up the server, what authentication did you use?

Three types of authentication:

1. Windows Authentication Only: The username/password combo to log on to the network are the same as those used to log on to the PDC.

2. SQL Server Authentication Only: The username/password combo are set up distinct from Active Directory.

3. Mixed Authentication: Either of the above methods can be used.

Hi,

I used option 2 and was unable to get round the problem. I reinstalled with option three and all is fine now.

But still, I used an SQL server and not an NT login. Anyways it works now.

Thanks
