What is the process for using brand new SDLT tapes with BE11?

Is it: Import, Inventory, Catalog, then label?

or is it: Inventory, Import, label, catalog?

Or none of the above?

If I want to quick erase a tape, do I:

Quick erase, inventory, label, catalog?

Once imported, do I just leave the tapes in Scratch media and let BE use it for the weekly job?

Thanks in advance for any clarification you can give.

Follow the steps below :

1. Import - To import the tape in the library.
2. Inventory - So that backup exec recognizes the tape.
3. Label - labe the tape if you don't want to keep the default media label.
4. Ready to Use.

In order to erase the tape, best practise is to run Quick Erase on it.

Once the tapes have been imported, leave them in the scratch media. Backup Exec will pickup the tapes from there and place them in the media set which is defined in the backup job after the backup is done.

No Need to catalog. Catalog is when you need to restore the data and you are not able see it under restore selections. AT that time, you need to catalog the tape, so that backup exec can read the contents of the tape.

Thank you! That is exactly what I was looking for!
