Hi there, we've had Crystal running on our Windows2000 server very well and have been using Internet Explorer to run these reports. I made a mistake when I installed a Windows2000 add-in called "Software Update Services" as the browser link to crystal no longer works. I think that crystal uses port:80 for some purpose and i believe that the new software I've installed has over-writtan that. I have no idea how to undo what i've done, I've un-installed the SUS program and re-booted our server but no luck.

Neither software packages document this or any similar issue.

Please help!

Can you give more deatils on exactly what the error message is.
Also how you have been accessing Crystal via a web browser.

I use Enterprise with IE, and after a IE update I had problems getting to the reports. The method that I used was, I was authenticating to the Enterprise using Enterprise authentication and was passing a 'clear' username and password. The IE patch explicitly denied access to a web page with a username password... however there is a registery key, that is documented on the Microsoft web page, that overides this.

The problem might be similar but without the specifics of exactly how you access the reports and the error message, this is only a stab in the dark

Cheers

Try posting the Crystal edition and version, along with the information Fred requested.

Hi, We use Crystal Reports 9 to share the reports but Crystal Enterprise to create them. It is the ePortfilio that doesn't work, using IE6 displays an HTTP 500 - Internal server error. I tried to re-install the software but it didn't change anything.

Mike

Can you log on to eportfolio? or is it when you try to view a instance of the report.

What else have you tried?

Cheers
Fred

Its logging on to ePortfolio that displays the HTTP error, also trying to launch ePortfolio from the Report Application Server Launchpad displays the error, i have to admit that i didn't realise that user authentication was part of the process.

I havn't tried anything else as I'm already beyond the limits of my experiance. I'm starting to think the issue is with Windows2000Server and not the config of Crystal.

Maybe this thread is best continued in the Enterprise group were other members may be able to assit.

The first thing I would do is to just check in the Crystal Config Manager and make sure all the services are running for Crystal.

If thats okay, then the next thing to check is to see is the Servers are Enablded.
From the CCM, click on the Enable/Disable servers icon (next to the restart icon). Logon via the authentication page and make sure all the servers are enabled.

What Authentication are you using?

If thats okay then its probably in the IIS setting somewhere. Its been a long time since i've worked in there so I'm not sure exactly were to point next... but lets see how we go.

Also I'm assuming what we have done so far is similar in 9 to what I'm used to in 8.5.

Can you post the url to your eportolio shortcut you use.

Cheers

Mike,

I think I got the problem by the wrong end.
I kept thinking that I was just a IE problem, but forgot about the SUS program.

Just some simple checks... can you connect to Eportfolio from any client or is it the Server.
Are you also saying that no client can now connect to it? (I sounds like it)
Check the services and ensure that the servers are still enabled as per the previous post.

Hi Fred, wow you've been busy. I'm afraid that this problem is beyond my level of knoweledge and I'm not sure if i can answer you questions correctly.

The config manager seems OK and the Servers are enabled. I don't know how to answer the authentication question. I looked through IIS and all seems to be OK.

My boss is going to arrange a support contract for these issues so i won't be needing to sort it out myself now. I'll keep your suggestions in mind and I'll post the fix once we have it.

Thankyou very much!

Mike

Sorry for the delay... I'm in Sydney Australia so the time zones all out of wack.

With the authentication, when you check to see if the Servers are enabled, I get a dialog prompting for Authentication, Aps, username and Password.

I've used the Crystal tech support and the Enterprise team has been very knowlodgeable with the product. Thats always another avenue for you.

Good luck

Cheers
Fred
