i am trying to produce a collage of pictures, i have scanned a collage already put together of actual photos, that has some blank spots to be filled with other digital photos, but when i copy the digital photo already the size to fit into the spot in the bigger collage, when i paste it it into that collage the size is smaller than when i copied it ?? i cant figure this out. any help will be appreciated, i am trying to learn photoshop myself, so i am not very knowledgeable.

thanks,
June

What is the dpi of the two images? If they are different, that could explain an apparent resizing. Also, how are you measuring the image's size?

Hi June,

It sounds like you are dealing with different image resolutions. Go to the image size dialogue (image/image size...) and make sure that both documents are the same resolution. If your copied image is coming out smaller in the composite then it is probably a lower resolution.

One possible solution for this is to resize the file after you have pasted it into the composite image. Then at least you will have a real time view of how it fits with the larger image.

Hope that helps.

Wow JT that almost looked like you knew what you were doing!

thanks so much, i had just changed the resolution to be the same 300 as the original & then the picture did come out bigger, however its now bigger than the size i asked for when i paste it into the collage. the pictures are coming from different formats, i scanned the original collage as actual size of photos, then reduced to the finished size i needed in photoshop, then the second picture came from somebody that gave me a digital photo on a disc, so that original resolution was much lower & size was bigger. i guess maybe this might have something to do with it, i will try sizing it once i paste it in. i have another question, is there some way to make the original scanned collage transparent, so when i paste the other picture & send it back, it can be seen in the empty spaces.
thanks,
June

Make sure the image is on a layer and use the transparency slider on the Layers pallet to adjust the transparency.

An easy way to move the image to a layer is just to go to "Select" "All" Then use cut and paste. Make sure that you have white selected as the background color on your color selector.

You will now have the image on layer 1 and a white background behind it.
