Hi All

Apologies for the newbie question but...

I'm converting a physical machine on our network to a virtual machine using VMWare Converter 3 and the saved file(s) will end up on a shared network location.

I've already converted 1 machine successfully (and tried it on my ESX server with no worries) but this current machine keeps crashing at 97% with the error message "ERROR: Unknown error returned by VMware Converter Agent"

I've tried altering permissions on the local folders to make sure it's not a worry but everything seems ok.

What would you guys do as the first thing to try?

I've also attached the log file if that's nay help.

Thanks in advance

That's not good. Do you have a support agreement with VMware? They may want to take a peak at it and see if they can't fix the problem.

Thanks for the reply!

Oh dear :(-

I do have a support agreement but what do you think they can do? I'm only using a free tool to convert to a network drive?

Hi Nick,

The OS of the computer being converted is Windows 2000 Pro, it's not actually a server OS.

Thanks,

Rich

I had a similar issue with 2000. Is it on a domain?

If so uninstall the converter, login as the local administrator account and install the converter and try again. This worked for me. also stop anything like diskeeper and your AV.

Thanks for your help, I will give that a try! :)
