I need to convert a 72 page word document into an indexed pdf document. About how much time should I plan for such a project? Thanks, AMc Should I stay or should I go? Thanks & Goodbye, Joe.

Depends on what software you have. Do you have either PDF Writer (comes with a lot of Office programs) or Distiller? If you have graphics in the document, it would be better to use Distiller, but if it is text only, then PDF Writer will do an acceptable job. Are you asking how much time will the conversion to PDF take? Well, assuming you have the software and no graphics, a few minutes. 72 pages is quite a lot, but I wouldn't think it should take too long.

I'll back up. What I want to do is convert a Word Document to an ebook with jump links embedded. I guess the links are what will take some time. I guess I need guidance on what software to get also. I thought the eBook would need to be read by an Adobe Acrobat type reader and due to this I would need to get Adobe Acrobat. Is Acrobat the right tool for Word-to-eBook conversion? Thanks, AMc Should I stay or should I go? Thanks & Goodbye, Joe.

Does Office 97 come with a pdf converter. I couldn't find it on the disk at a glance. Thanks, AMc Should I stay or should I go? Thanks & Goodbye, Joe.

To convert a Word doc to an eBook, you will need the full version of Acrobat (just Distiller actually). Once that is installed, there should be a button on one of your Word toolbars (or it may make its own toolbar) which will allow you to convert to PDF. To maintain the links, you will need to do the direct conversion i.e. 'Export (or convert) to PDF'. (If you do it the two step way - print to postscript file, then distill - it will lose the links).

Before you attempt this, you will need to ensure that Distiller has the right 'job options' in place, as you do not get a chance to set this using the direct conversion. One of the default settings in Distiller is for 'eBook' so choosing this will give you the correct compressions.

If you still have questions, just ask.

Thanks Eggles - spot on! Should I stay or should I go? Thanks & Goodbye, Joe.
