Hello,

I am a newbie to MS Access but am a Java Programmer/SQL Programmer..:)

I have to write this report in MS Access which according to me would require multiple queries and also might need some programming logic...to arrive at various conditional totals.

How should I best approach this...are there any samples available out there...the ones with MS Access do not have any modules/functions/classes/database related logic.

Thanks in advance,

you can do some pretty complex things with Access. It does have limitations, but those are mainly do to 'scope', rather than complexity.

since you are familiar with SQL, think of Access queries as SQL 'VIEWS'. Essentially, that is what they are. You can combine relationships, create virtual data fields (using a very good 'function' toolbox) and create new queries, based on previously defined queries.

i am from a VB/Oracle/SQL Server/Unix/Progress background. i have discovered some bugs in the Access Report system, and am trying to debug them.

if you want to ask some specific questions, post, or e-mail me directly.

cheers

Available on the Microsoft web site are some examples of databases you can download. One is specifically on Reports. You can also check and see if you've got the Solutions database or the Northwind one on your computer. These have a lot of report examples as well.
