Hello,

I'm new to linux, and have found an old 486 I thought i'd try to setup to share an internet connection in our small office. I've been having a bit of trouble though, as the connection doesnt seem to last and gives the following messages:

Dec 17 23:10:49 - diald[1532]: Running connect (pid = 1750).
Dec 17 23:10:49 - connect: Dialing [bt_surft] T08440404001
Dec 17 23:11:12 - (-: chat: Dec 17 23:11:12 CONNECT 115200
Dec 17 23:11:12 - connect: Chat finished successfully
Dec 17 23:11:12 - diald[1532]: Running pppd (pid = 1769).
Dec 17 23:11:12 - diald[1769]: Running pppd: /bin/pppd -detach modem crtscts mtu 1500 mru 1500 noipdefault
Dec 17 23:11:12 - pppd[1769]: pppd 2.3.5 started by root, uid 0
Dec 17 23:11:12 - pppd[1769]: Using interface ppp0
Dec 17 23:11:12 - pppd[1769]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/cua0
Dec 17 23:11:25 - pppd[1769]: Hangup (SIGHUP)
Dec 17 23:11:25 - pppd[1769]: Modem hangup
Dec 17 23:11:25 - pppd[1769]: Connection terminated.
Dec 17 23:11:26 - pppd[1769]: Exit.
Dec 17 23:11:27 - diald[1532]: Delaying 5 seconds before clear to dial.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to fix this please?

By the way, I've not found it mentioned in any help files for linux how to tell a Win98 machine to access the internet via the new linux machine. I've guessed/assumed its just to add the linux box IP address as the default gateway in the Win 98 network settings, If you can tell me i'm right/wrong and direct me to a help file for simpleton like myself I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
