Hi. I'm totally new to VM's (and serious IT in general). I've running Vista Pro on my laptop and have installed VMWare.

I've got a external drive where I keep my VMs, and have installed two distros of Linux(Ubuntu & Kbuntu). Both of their ethernet settings were set to NAT (share the IP of the host), at my OS instructors specific instructions. But neither of them will connect the web, so I can't upgrade them or install any new desktops or other programs. They just say that they cannot resolve the addresses.

Has anyone got any ideas on how I should proceed?

Thanks!

Alex

Are they getting an IP Address from the VMware DHCP server on your machine? In my case the machines would get a 192.168.76.x address for the VMware machine compared to the 192.168.1.x address for my physical machine.

As root, if you type ifconfig into your linux box you should get the details for your local interface (eth0).
It should have the IP, GW and Subnet information in there.

You should also check on the networking side of VMware (Edit, Virtual Network Editor) to check what your VMNet8 (normally the NAT card) is set to use.

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.
