Hello,

Pls excuse my lack of knowledge in call routing and telephone systems. This email marks the beginning of the research phase of my idea and I'm wondering about external call routing in particular.

(This is where I start to look flaky.)

Is there a device to take an incoming call from an external source, say a public telephone, and connect the call to another EXTERNAL telephone line?

I'd like to set up a system such that my employees would be able to dial into a work number and be automatically connected to a needed vendor in the area of their call.
This would greatly reduce the time spent by my staff in making arrangements with the office (from the field) to acquire needed resources from vendors closest to them from around the city.

I'm hoping that the call router could be somehow connected to a computer (desktop/server) to automatically determine where the incoming calls should be connected to, and to then connect the field tech directly to a vendor in their area.

Please tell me whether or not I'm off in the clouds. If such a system is possible (and I can't see why it wouldn't be) could you please point me to more information, products, or keywords that I will be interested in learning more about.

Anything you can point me to is appreciated.

Many phone systems have features that can probably do what you are looking for. For example, if your system has an auto attendant you could set up an option, with its own phone number and menu to access a speed number list and the tech would key in the speed number of the company he or she wanted to call and the system would put the call thru.

This is just one idea. You did not mention what system you currently have.

Hope this helps!

why not just print our a list of vendors and give one to each employee

you have it divided by citys :city a nw, city a ne , city a sw ,city a se .

Sure I know a medical supply comany that has a Dial my name IVR system for all of it's doctors. the user just dials into the IVR From anywere in the US and you can get transferred to any account they have on file.
Most IVR systems will handle this.

If you get the right system you can do it easly. Telecom Hackers 101 We do it everday to one number. Also I have set it up to have an IT person call a 800 number and get dial tone. Open Dial Tone but we have LD code to stop Hackers.
