newbie about ultra 2

hi im really new on SUN system, i bought a second hand ultra enterprise 2 with 300mhz cpu and 9g HD no display card and no operating system. question is how can i telnet to this box or any other way to install operating system? thanks

As a start, I would use a serial connection to it, and Hyperterminal on a PC. (ZTerm on a Mac) you can't telnet until you and it know it's IP address. I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

If there is no graphics card installed, the serial port on the back will be the console. This will allow you to boot to the CDROM to do an OS install.

got the serial cable, pluged in and used hyperterminal, boot up but nothing happened on HT, tried lots combination on settings but still not getting anything. will that be a motherboard fault?? or i better sell this unit ;(

Are you using a Null Modem cable?

i think so, its a 25 pin male to 9 pin femal

You will probably need to purchase/aquire a 9 pin D-Sub Null Modem Connector. That is what I use on my E220R
