Newb - Mirroring / Application Failover

I have 2 SQL 2008 R2 servers on different sites with a high speed fibre link between the 2. On my main site I have some desktops with an old app running that references the servername and IP. I would like to the fail them over to talk to the offsite server during patching / upgrades with minimal outage.

I know the mirroring will move my data but has anyone have a setup that gets around the DNS and IP address issues apart from manually reconfiguring each client?
