Newb going mad - problem with button actions...

Howdy
I have searched to see if I could find anything but nothing really comes to my needs (Or most probably I don't understand them and just can't apply it to mine)
I want to add an action to a button which would make the current page with the button slide across the screen and a new page slide across and take it's place. I have applied over actions to the button. Would I have to create a movie clip for the slide of the pages? I just can't get the hang on action scripting. I currently have everything on one layer. (problem?)
