NEWB :) Console connection 1

I have a superstack 1100 24 port. I'm not familiar with switch management. I've been told that I need to connect a rollover cable to the console port to manage the router. I'm new at this part of the game. Any links or suggestions would be helpful!

You need a 'null-modem cable' with DB9 (or SUB-D 9) female connectors at both ends. Pin 5 is straight through, pins 2 and 3 are crossed, pins 1-4-6 and 7-8 are connected on either end.

OK... I've finally got the null modem cable female to female DB9. I connected one end to the console port, and the other to a serial port on another pc. I've tried to hyper terminal in xp pro... but still can't connect. What is the next step in this process. I don't have the software that comes with the switch because I bought it second hand. Thanks again for any help!

Next step is to setup HyperTerm with direct connection (no modem) 9600 Baud, 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit.

Press Return several times(!) to get a 'login:' prompt. Enter 'admin' and Return. Just Return on the 'password:' prompt.
