new XPpro install, empty desktop 1

This sounds similar to a thread slight earlier, but pretty sure it is different enough to post separately ...
I just re-installed fresh winXP pro, with service pack 2 to a newly formatted drive ... the only icon on the desktop is the recycle bin. I have tried group policeis and all through control panel, where can I turn on any of the other ones - my computer, my documents, network, etc ...

That's actually normal OOBE. There are several ways to add the My Computer, My Documets, etc to the Windows Desktop. The easiest to do all at once is: right-click on some empty space on the desktop, Properties, Desktop tab, Customize Desktop button. Select the desktop icons that you want dispalyed.
