good day,
I know there are a million and one fixes out there but non of the 67 websites can help me so far.
The problem is that windows 7 boots and I get to the login screen, I log in and the black screen just stays there for about 5 to 9 min and then the desktop loads. the long wait is my problem. boot up doesn't fail it just takes for ever and the notebook is a core i7 with 8GB ram and huge ATI GFX with the correct drivers.
please help.

the fix that everyone is using (link below) doesn't do anything.

Does the same thing happen in Safe Mode?

If it doesn't it could some something its loading at startup gets hung up. Try using msconfig to disable startup items.

By the way your Black Screen seems to be different to the most other black screens. Most just halt the computer all together. Yours just seems to be sitting at the desktop taking a while to load.
By the way, are you using very heavy wallpaper in some difficult to load location? Like a network drive that takes a while to connect?

If safe mode is kosher, try removing your video drivers and see if it boots sprightly into normal mode.

If so, reinstall video drivers and see what's up.

More info please...

What programs are auto-starting at boot?

Download HiJackThis from the TrendMicro website, run a SCAN with LOG, and paste that log here, so that we may discern Auto-Start entries and what else might be ailing the laptop...
