I recently have noticed that one of the secure sites I visit weekly shows an Internet Security warning. When I tell it to Not Allow, a one of the maddening IE bands across the bottom says that "Webpage wants to run an Add-on from Apple."

What is this all about. I have been using this site for more that a year without seeing these messages.

Well they are not from Micro$oft so Infernet Exploder is just being it's useless overly paranoid self.

And given dialogue title, I'm torn between deciding whether "Internet Explorer Security" is an oxymoron or merely a contradiction in terms.

It's hard to be sure without knowing what site you're visiting but it doesn't sound trustworthy to me. An add-on named 'Apple' by 'Apple Inc.' sounds just like the sort of thing people may unwittingly trust because they know the name, but I've never heard of such an add-on.

Another way bad guys have of getting malware onto your computer is with certain corrupt PDF files. Adobe patch holes in Adobe Acrobat pretty frequently to stop this kind of thing but it looks as though you're running an extremely old version - 7.0 - that's likely riddled with vulnerabilities.

So I'd say the site you're talking about is either malicious or has been hacked to host malicious content.

You should really update Acrobat to the latest version and keep it up-to-date.

Word!! How could you be that far out of date unless it's the full (paid) version of Acrobat.

I wouldn't be too sure that the sites or what they are trying to do (run) is malicious. With that said, keeping windows updated with patches, secondary programs (java, flash, shockwave, IE, Firefox, acrobat reader, etc.) up to date and anti-virus installed and up to date are the steps needed to keep yourself as safe as possible.
