So I got the new video card working in WIn98, but I now get an error message at boot - "0251:System CMOS Checksum bad-Default config used." f1-to setup, f2 to resume....

I searched on google for this, what I found was 1.Virus?
2. CMOS battery going bad. 3.Corrupt info in bios.
IS it possible that changing out a video card was enough to
cause this msg=its annoying and another step to go thru to get it to boot, but I could live with it if I have to.

ps checked all cables this time

You get a star for looking up your error, but have you tried any of the suggestions from your search?
Put it into action!

Hey Gargouille---- after the monster storm outbreak last nite, and my power was off about 3hrs- the "CMOS" error went away, go figure...heheh. new Video card seems to be working ok now, but Win98 still boots up with an attempt to get me to configure it as a "Standard Display adapter" even though I installed all the software on the CD that came with it. I just hit cancel and keep on trucking. Appreciate the help sir

Lotsa' ways of flashing the BIOS, huh? LOL

Go to Device Manager and make sure your system is seeing the right Display Adapter...and if not tell it you wanta' change it and when it asks for drivers...put the CD in (do your CD's autoplay? IF they do put the CD in and hold SHIFT key down for about 20 or 30 seconds...it'll bypass the autoplay) and show it the CD disc for the drivers.
It's kinda' clumsy because of the way drivers come down the pike these days...

Yep yep most of them do autoplay but for some reason this one didnt, and the device manager does show the correct display adapter, and its the only one listed. Dont know why it keeps wantin to call it a "standard display adapter"..Dev manager shows it correctly "ATI EXPERT128"..It might clear up too, esp if i reinstall windows.. ONE point>win98 'crasho-matic' has stopped crashing on shutdown since i put this new card in , hehehe.
I always thought 'onboard' video had somethin to do with it.

So a Start/Run/msconfig and make sure none of the startup files call the Standard Display Adapter...if they do turn that S>>> er, stuff off. That may fixit.

Wow I flashed my bios and didnt even know it. Nor understand what that is, but then I dont really need to. lol
I'll check out that funky msconfig file and see whassup
thks again
