There is a new version of Sun's JRE (1.1.8) for surfing the web!!! You can get it at This will only work if you are using a newer browser like Opera 5+ Netscape 6+ & a newer version of IE (Internet Explorer). I suggest using Opera because it's the fastest & takes up the least amount of space on your hard drive & it has always worked better with java than Netscape or IE you can get it at If you don't want to bother with Opera & already have Netscape 6.0 then I suggest using it & not IE. Although if you already have the latest version of IE and it works with JRE then go ahead & use it, there's nothing particularly wrong with it, it's just that Opera & Netscape are faster.

I have to say this. If you have not installed NS6, please don't install it. Although the new interface looks nice, I find that there are plenty of problems with it. For example, the browser itself is not compatible with (I forgot is it javascript or CSS) the codes for Netscape 4 or IE5. So those websites that you are able to load before in NS4 or IE5, you might have trouble loading them in NS6.

If you end up uninstalling NS6, you will have to reassign the appropriate file types back to point to NS4 or IE5. NS6 automatically changes a lot of file type to be opened in NS6 and when you uninstall it, it doesn't change anything back!! (e.g. file types like html, xml etc.) So I don't think it is worth the trouble to even install NS6 at all.

Just what I think... If you need additional help, you can email to me at zaoliang@hotmail.com I don't guaranty that I will be able to solve your problems but I will try my best :)

Uhm - I thought the newest JRE Version was 1.4 at...

In responce to LeonTang, yes I'll bet Netscape 6 is bad, that's why I highly suggest Opera, In responce to Haslo, yes there probably is a newer version, but that's what I found on Sun's website for download & I just downloaded 1.3.0_01 a few months ago & it was soposed to be new.
