I am evaluating Eudora 6.0, and can't find answers in the manual or by searching here.

1. Graphic image attachments are supposed to be rendered in the message body, but a mail with a .jpg attached just shows an icon for the image. Doesn't matter whether "Use Microsoft's viewer" is checked or not.

2. Is there a way to open a message for viewing in a separate undocked (non-MDI) window, such that the message list is not covered..., and is it possible to have more than one message open for reading simultaneously?

3. It seems very unfriendly to have the personalities named "<Dominant>", and "mail.xy.isp.com". Is there a way to change those?

4. Is it possible to change the order of the message list columns?

There's more to ask, but I'll start with these.

1. Embedded HTML graphics are rendered as embedded, but graphic attachments are shown as attachments.

2. A message can be opened in a separate MDI window by double-clicking its mailbox entery. You can have any number of windows (mailboxes, messages, etc.) open at a time within the main program window.

3. You can't change the "<Dominant>" personality label. Other personality labels can be changed by editing them in eudora.ini, and renaming the corresponding .mbx and .toc files.

4. I don't know any way to change the order of mailbox columns.

Apologies! Personalities (other than <Dominant>) can be renamed by right-clicking and selecting Rename.

More apologies! Ignore that last post; the first method is the only one I know to rename personalities.

Tony, thanks for the quick answers. I guess I am spoiled, I've been using Pocomail for several years, which does everything as I like, except for message body formatting, which is embarassingly bad.

1. Poco will display common graphics in the reader window, even attachments to plain text mail. I was hoping for the same from Eudora. It's a "user convenience" feature, you know, especially when several pix are attached.

2. I want each mail reading window to be independant, non-modal, with a real frame, that can be moved anywhere on screen, so you can see them all simultaneously. Eudora seems to force everything to be tiled into the main app frame.

3. Baaaad programming choice. People like to use thier own names for account ID.

4. People also like to put columns in their preferred order, not the programmer's preferred order. Like: From, Subject, Date.

More questions/complaints:

Eudora doesn't indicate which mailboxes have gotten new mail, so you are left guessing which boxes to look in. You may answer "they are highlighted", but they're always highlighted because some mail is always left unread.

I am sorting "Date descending", so Eudora puts new mails at the top of the list (yay!). But only the first one is shown, the others are scrolled off at the top, and you have to scroll down to even discover that they are there (booo).
