I am currently evaluating Filemaker pro 8.5 and have found the included 'how to' info none too helpful.

What I wish to achieve is have a field where I enter the clients website address without the http and then have the web browser display the website of that field within the page. I cannot find how to specify the web address correctly and always end up with message "can't find host" displayed where the website should display.

I get this message when the specified value is " " with SSI being the database name and website being the field where the web address is entered.

I appreciate this is just a lack of knowledge thing as a new user but I just cannot work our how to sort this.

let me see if i understand you. you pretty much are trying to recreate a web browser with in file maker. if so enjoy if not just another cool trick.

start by creatin two feilds name them or what ever you like.

1.) z_web_address_entry - type text field
2.) z_web_address_Display - Create as Calculation =
" z_web_address_entry

calculation result is text.

then create a web viewer for the web address click specify then set equal to the following
z_web_address_Display

(note: the web address basically has to equal you calculation that adds the http:// for you no matter what web address you type.

then all you really need to add to the page is field z_web_address_entry

and you can add the other field just to see the calculation work.
