I just purchased a 2-CPU HP workstation off of E-Bay. I am trying to install RH7.3, but I cannot get the graphical console to work correctly. The machine came with an HP 'FX2' graphics card, for which I can find no specific driver software. The problem is that the generic stuff does not seem to work either!

Can someone please point me in a direction? I have tried all the generic VGA-compatible modes in the distro, to no avail. I've tried asking for help in other forums, some specific to HP and some to XF86. No joy on any front. Help!

TIA,
Mike

Hi,

Try use the latest version of XF86. And install latest rh release if possible. rh 9.

Thanks for the suggestion, but...well...been there done that. I purchased RH9 and still had the problems with the FX2 board; RH9 has a very recent release of XF86. But then, I found out that Oracle does not run on RH9 yet, so that is why I am forced to use RH7 for the time being.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Mike

Had a quick search and it looks like the FX2 isn't supported yet.

A tip? Probably best thing is to buy a cheap, basic video card that is compatable with your version of XFree86 and wait until the FX2 driver is out. Sounds a bit of a cop-out but with cheap cards going for a few quid/bucks it'll be the quickest solution.
