Hi there,

I am new to XML, and am investigating avenues to further my knowledge with an aim to get into technical publications.

I will be purchasing a few books and researching online, but I have seen that there are conferences and events you can attend also, I have seen that the x-pubs 2008 conference is coming up at the end of the month, is this sort of thing actually any use to a newbie such as myself? Or is it better suited to more the knowledgable in the field?

I don't want to end up paying for something that might not be useful to me. Has anyone got any friendly advice on where to start?

See Resources for those who want to learn XML faq426-6460 (If you discover any broken links, let me know.)

And while I haven't been to a conference specifically for XML, generally they are not for beginners. Unless you get a conference schedule that has a "Beginning Track," you might as well set your wallet on fire.

Thanks very much for your reply harebrain, as you say I suspect that there is not really anything lined up for beginners at Xpubs, even the workshops appear to be geared to those who already work with XML so I think I will give it a miss this time around!

Thank you for the link as well, I'll start there and resist the temptation to set light to my wallet! :)
