New to WAN

I have been looking after a local LAN for a year now but we are now being merged with a company less than 25 miles away from us, we cant get broadband in our area so we use a 2MB tiered leased line capped at 128k for email and internet and the odd PC anywhere session, the other company does have broadband, they are both fairly small companies. We need to link the two companies together for data and not sure whether to use VPN or if possible a private line between the two buildings. Can anyone please point me in the right direction to go down as I am a bit of a WAN noopie?
