Good day ..

New to Unix (never worked with it), and I have a few questions.

1. Does anyone know where I can get a free personal version of unix? Or trial software?

2. Can I install Unix on any PC? Example.. I have an old personal pc .. its an HP that has ME on it right now. Can I install Unix over this and expect it to work?

thanks..

To run unix on a PC, your best option might be linux which is free to download from the web or available commercially at low cost. There are several good versions of linux. Redhat, Mandrake are two examples. Just do a search on linux.

Alternatively I believe a PC version of SUN Solaris 8 is also freely downloadable.

You can trash your old PC and remove ME or dual partition it to load unix on one partition and ME on another.

Have a look at the linux forum on Tek tips
