Hi,

This will seem such a basic question..for which I apologise.
I am new to asp/ultra dev and want to create a simple data driven site.
The first part tells me i need a personal web serverto view the pages.
I am using windows ME which apparently does not have or does not support the personal web server.
Can anyone help?

Hi Ticker,

I know what you mean, and in fact I always have to fight with UD4 to get it to do live data view. With some sites it doesn't seem to mind, others it won't find the dsn connection - although once uploaded it does.

Personally I put in the code and upload to view it. Yes it takes considerably longer than if you could preview - but if you cannot - it is one possibility.

Which always brings to the subject of - not wanting to upload unfinished pages - being pages that are currently used. A suggestion to that would be to either make a subdirectory within your domain for testing - or sign up for a free account at a place that does asp hosting.

If I can help - hollar.

Thanks for that.
Any suggestions who does free space that handles asp?
Another dumb question by me....
would a solution be to buy server software, if so any suggestions?
Thanks.

Hey Ticker,

There is this info link from Microsoft. From what they are saying is you can basically trick ME into letting this NT 4.0 patch to work, but be very cautious with it. If you tried it - make sure your backups are very recent.

One location I know of, but you cannot use ftp with their free account is brinkster.com "If you feel a post has been helpful to you, click on the link at the bottom of their post to cast a vote for "TipMaster Of The Week". You don't need to be the one who asked the question to vote"
