I am putting together a linux server and am planning to get the Oracle 8I for Linux Starter Kit. Does anyone know how much RAM is required ormin. sys. reqmts.?

I was planning on building it on a PII 266 machine w/128mb RAM. Is this doable?

Thanks.

Depends on the application that you are planning to run. For a very small scale non-critical application, your specs. will be enough. If its a Personal Oracle 8i installation, that will be enough.

For Oracle 8I, the recommended minimum is 256 Megs RAM and 400 Megs swap.
the 400 Megs swap is mandatory
And the 256 is a minimum for performance (for 30 $, why bother)

Thanks for the input.

This is going to be more of a training exercise, so 'mission critical' is not in the vocabulary. I was planning eventually to upgrade RAM to 512 since I have some lying around.

Again, thanks for the help. I LOVE this site!
