New to Tadiran 2

I have started a new job with a Tadiran 500 system.
I have extensive cisco IPT/IPCC and Avaya experience but the Tadiran is new to me.
I have not found all commands I'm seeking-
How can I search the Tadiran by MAC?
I'd like to pick up a keyset (T208M), enter the MAC and find the programming associated (if any) to at least find the assigned EXT#. (Simply plugging the phone-in-question to a port and calling another phone doesn't work as the display doesn't show the Ext#)

Search the Tadiran by MAC:
1) Login to the PI (Programming Interface) with HyperTerminal
2) Type 9 for IP
3) Type 1 for IP Ports
4) Type 0 for Keyset
5) Type 0 for Index Access
6) Type 1 for Display
7) Type 0 for the From
8) Wack Enter for the To
9) Type MAC when it asks for Any Specific Data Field
10) It should show you all the MAC associated with the IP KEYSET INDEX

If you want to find Extension of MAC
1) Follow the instructions above
2) When it asks for Any Specific Data Field, just press enter
3) When you find your MAC, look at the Dial Number associated with the MAC.

TIP: if you don't see an dial number, you need to add one in the NPL (Numbering Plan)

ckunkle- Thanks for your help. I can follow your instructions, but since I am using HyperTerminal I cannot see the display output as it scrolls out of the window...
using 0-update does not seem to help. I have 1499 indexes and after searching one-by-one through 250 of them I still have not found my MAC. Do you mean there is no command line way to simply enter the MAC into the Tadiran interface and get to the programmed phone info -like with cisco Call Manager? I'm stumped by this Tadiran -it seems so difficult to do something that should be so simple.
The phone works, can it work without a Dial number?
I'd like to program the phone for another PTN/person-but I can't find it in the Tadiran to administer???

Cal, in Hyperterminal you can log to file to view any history should you need to. Also the Coral PI allows for scroll control, press Ctrl-S to enable and Ctrl-Q to disable (I'm pretty sure they're the correct values).

As for the phone working without a dial number, that's entirely possible. The Coral works on Indexes in the database. Programming (incl MAC) is assigned to the Index and so is the Dial Number. So you can remove the dial number and still have the phone work but it just won't be able to be called. SIP phones work differently ie username/pword auth.

It's not a good idea to compare the Coral, or any PBX, with Cisco, or any "IP PBX". They're completely different. The Coral itself has been around for nearly 20yrs, the Cisco only a few. The Coral is a true PBX with IP phone functionality.

My suggestion would be to enable 'log to file' in Hyperterminal, display all Indexes for IP phones then search the newly created log file for the MAC. Once you've found the Index, add a new Dial Number to that Index.

I used 'Capture Text...' in my Tadiran HyperTerminal session and run the Display command and captured the index output to a txt file.

I could not get Ctrl-S | Ctrl-Q to work, neither could I get the Ctrl-D toggle <ENTRY BY ENTRY DISPLAY | SCROLLING DISPLAY> to work usefully for me. Are there specific HyperTerminal settings to use?
I'm using: Terminal Keys; Backspace sends Ctrl-H; VT100; ASCII Character Set; Input Translation is Shift-JIS. While Backscroll is set to 200 lines it doesn't work. I've tried various combinations and also HyperTerm PE to no avail.
I've asked management for Procomm but with Capture-Text I can do much more without it.

I'm most familiar with 'traditional' Avaya Definity TDM PBX's (15 years) but still find little comparison from my past experience to this Tadiran. It is a new learning experience and this forum has been invaluable.
 
An Additional question came from Management today.
Does the Tadiran have the capability to shut down the phones, or reduce energy usage by turning off the keyset displays at a set time-of-day?

I have searched:
0-config; 0-sys_params; 4-sys_opt; 0-night serv; 0-times; 1-display
and found:
1st serv:time-8:00 type-0
2nd serv:time-17:00 type-1
3rd serv:time-22:00 type-2
What does this indicate? and is there an 'energy saving' setting like I describe above?
We are a brand new 'Green Building' with intense public visibility and there is great interest in this.

Good to hear you got it sorted.

I'm not 100% on the CTRL-S/Q. I never use them. I'd need to check the manual for the list of those commands.I prefer Procomm because it allows longer scroll back that Hyperterminal, I've never managed to get a long history working well in Hyperterminal.

Always use Del not Backspace too. I think you can somehow configure Hyperterminal/Procomm to make Backspace work the same but I just remember to use Del.

Use 9600,N,8,1 VT100 with no flow control I think works best. That's really all you need. Or for newer IPx systems you can increase the speed (change TERM in Coral) but there's really no need to go much faster, it's just text after all and you can't work that fast! It comes in handy if you're displaying a lot of info but that's about it.

You'll find with a bit of practice it should come easy. It did for me. Because there are several ways to do things (see FAQ) you can start slowly going thru menus one by one but once you remember you can type a single string to do it quickly. It's all in English so you don't have to remember codes like on Nortel or Ericsson, and each value has a pretty good description about what it actually does.

As for the green thing. No. And I doubt you'll find any system that can do that. I've never heard of such a thing in 13yrs! I believe some newish IP phones (poss Polycom) have it built in to their firmware to dim the display but that's a phone setting not a system one.
