With RH 7.2 you should be able to use sendmail out of the box with just a few changes. Look for this line in /etc/mail/sendmail.mc :

DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.01, Name=MTA')

This tells sendmail to only look at the loopback device (the machine it is running on) and not to allow mail from the outside world. RH saw fit to do it this way for security. You can delete this line, comment it out or change the loopback ip for your internet ip. Sendmail stores mail on the server in /var/spool/mail/username, where username is a name of a user on your system. There will be one file for each user. You will need to set up a server to deliver the mail to the user's mail client. You can use a POP3 server such as qpopper or FetchMail. If you are just using it locally, then you would enter the machine's name that the servers are on in where the client wants the pop and smtp servers. If you will be setting your mail server up to be accessed from the internet you will need to do a little more.
