Hi, I'm very new to both ReportNet and MS's SQL Server. Following the instructions for ReportNet, I've created a user on the remote database machine, created the SQL database (checked), and in the SQL Enterprise Manager made sure the user has all the proper rights to the database. Using that database and user, I've tried to logon to ReportNet but the log says that the logon for the user has failed, and it is followed by a series of errors like so:

CM-CFG-5036 Content Manager failed to connect to the content store. The connection string is "jdbc:JSQLConnect://fth-gtg-db01:1433/ReportNetContentStoreDB".
Failed Logon:com.jnetdirect.jsql.w: Login failed for user 'GTGDEV\reportnetuser'. url:jdbc:JSQLConnect://fth-gtg-db01:1433/ReportNetContentStoreDB

as well as "ActiveCMControl" errors. I've created and deleted several names and databases, all done as properly as I know how (permissions, etc) - but clearly, I'm missing something. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Right, I've fixed part one - the user had to be an SQL user and not a Windows user (domain). Cognos boots now (success in crnserver.log) and the splash screen appears for a moment, but then it goes to a 404. Here's the Windows log:

Any suggestions as to what it may be?I've already reinstalled. Thanks.

James

Which version of SQL server are you using (6.5, 7.0 or 2000, ...)? CRN has problems with versions previous to SQL Server 2000 but works fine with 2000.

Check the crnserver.log for more info on whats happening - also double check the virtual directroies are correctly setup in your webserver. If using IIS 6 make sure you have either allowed all unknown CGI's (if using this interface), or you can tie it down more to the CGI used, but I don't have that info to hand =)
