All: I hope someone can help me. I'm a old console programming guy, who's just learning to access Merlin systems remotely. Can someone please tell me the CORRECT step by step procedures for remote access. The DISA part has been completed, but I can't get in, and I know that I'm doing something wrong. Any and all help will be(already is) appreciated.

Thanks In Advance,

Tony

I'm assuming that you either have a trunk that is programmed for remote access, or you have renumbered the remote access code to a DID number and are calling in that way.

You need to assign a barrier code for remote programming. I usually use barrier code 16.

With WinSPM, set up your site and click the external remote access tab, enter the number something like this:

5551212,,,,,1234567,*10

where 5551212 is the remote access DISA number, the commas are time pauses (may have to add or delete some as needed), 1234567 is the barrier code, and *10 is the extension number of the internal modem.

Thanks for the reply. The system I'm trying to dial is a new customer site and she tells me that the barrier code feature is not being used. When I attempt to access the system, the number dials, rings twice, and then I get dial tone again. I have the commas in my dial string (five) then the *10. After that I should hear the modems attempt to handshake right? But I don't hear the modems trying to connect. What's missing?

If you don't assign a barrier code for Remote Programming, the calls will transfer to the Operator!

Thicks,
If you can put your buttset on that line and get your call transferred to your customer, or the operator, when they answer, have them transfer you to *10. That will give modem tone from the switch to your laptop modem and they will begin to communicate.
