New to MS SQL.

Hi,

I have a few mS access dbs that I want to upsize to MS SQL. However, I am not sure about the process afterwards. In Access there is a file that is created and uploaded to the server. With MySQL you can use phpmyadmin and many other tools to create and edit the db.

What tools do I need to work with MS SQL? My webhost account has the option to MS SQL so I have already setup a connection with the db on the webhost. However, the db is empty.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi there, I have literally done this over the weekend just gone. I was using access as my db and wanted to follow the natural progression and upsize to MS SQL. I used the free developer edition of MS SQL from Microsoft's website. it is basic but does what I need.

I used the upsize feature in MS access to convert the .mdb file. It automaticly added it in SQL. I then had to create a user account and check some data was ok but generally everything was fine, nothing needed to be altered.

Then I sent the .mdf and .ldf file from the program files\sql server install directory to the hosting company. They attached it to my already setup db in the control panel(by the sounds of it you have done this step). Thats it really, setup Datasources and so on to look for the new db and your done. In order to view your db live you can use the Server Management Studio that comes with SQL Server to connect to your db at your hosting company providing they let you of course.
