Hello,
i come from audix and g350 definity, now i am in a company with merlin integrated.

there is an instance of WinSPM installed direct connect.
From there, can i manage the users voicemail, reassign passwords, set limits ie, in a GUI or at least dos like environment?

Is this a whole new world for me? Does all have to be done with the handsets?

What kind of Messaging module (Model#)? Some models can be administered through a PC LAN interface - others have to be administerd from a phone. WinSPM is only for administering the processor - not voicemail.

i have a MERLIN (c) Messaging System Release 2.5 Library CD in front of me, does that help...where else can i find out more?

i dropped in that cd and it asked to install the pc administration thing, so i did, and launched the getting started guide which prompts me to setup the module via rs232 to setup params for adding the messaging module to the LAN. i will peruse the manual, setup the LAN, then go from there. Are there any caveats that you can identify to assist in my learnings here?

i do appreciate leading me away from winSPm, i was so stuck at that point!

The process is pretty straightforward. If you plan to use a standalone laptop with an ethernet port, you do NOT need to reconfigure the messaging's LAN port - just make your laptop match the settings as the manual describes. If you plan to have the messaging module permanently connected to your LAN, then you will need to use hyperterminal to reconfigure the Messaging's LAN port to match your network. Of course, you can also administer the messaging system from any phone - and will need to do that anyway to record announcements, input mail box names, etc.

I would suggest learning the telephone interface. It allows you to do remote changes very easily from off site. Once you get your feet wet, it is pretty easy. If you can play with a demo system, or a new install before it is installed. It is very similiar to the Prtner mail, if you learn that, you know the general parameters. It is a little different, but not much.
Look at acaya.com, the PDF's are free.
