I am new to the Linux world and would like to run my own Linux server. I would like to know what free versions are around and which ones would be suitable for someone with little of experience of Linux. I have plenty of experience in the MS world but would like to expand my horizons a bit. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks.

What kind of server?

Free versions of what? Distributions or server software?

Just to toss one out, go get Fedora from RedHat.

Read everything you can there. Download the disk images and burn them. Get an old PC and install away. The best way to learn is to just do it.

Hope this helps.

I know exactly where you are coming from. I am a newbie myself. I started with Fedora.. easy to setup for us newbies, and there is plenty of help out there for when you get stuck.
