New to Java question

I am new to JAVA and would like to know if J2EE or the API JMF is the right forum to ask questions in if I would like to make a simple java program for cell phones?

Oh and if you could link me to any tutorials for programing simple applications for cell phones would be nice or good books.

Personally I'd not start out with things like that without a solid background in standard Java applications...
