Hi All,

Can anyone help me - I'm new to GroupWise and have a couple of easy questions I'm sure you experts will be able to answer )

1. What is the field test file used for??

2. Can anyone give a brief explanation of what the edirectory is?? Is it like AD in Windows??

Thanks

:) Ok... couple things..

1- FTF (field test file)'s are fixes that Novell has made to various defects that haven't made it to a support pack. Generally speaking, if you are having issues, it's a good possibility that the FTF has the fix you need.

2- eDirectory was around a WAY LONG TIME before AD... So realistically, AD is more like eDir, except AD adds proprietary hooks into things so it is more difficult to integrate with. And eDir is actually functional, it's not just a smokescreen to make the OS look like it has a directory.

2a- respective to GroupWise... eDirectory is required to properly manage GroupWise. Your user accounts, post office settings, etc are stored in eDirectory. In the Novell world, eDirectory is where everything is managed. All of Novell's products integrate nicely into eDirectory and use eDirectory for configuration and management.. ZENworks, NetWare (Open Enterprise Server), GroupWise, iPrint, iFolder, etc.. So if you have an eDirectory structure in place, it's easy to add other Novell services without reinventing the wheel.
