I've just finished my MCSA and about to begin my CCNA. Not only do I want to prepare for the exam - I also want to get an indepth knowledge of the CCNA materials. What is the best CCNA study material to use?

Thanks.

Get the latest Cisco Press. It is definitly good to use for the cert and also is good to study. If you want in depth get the 2 part study books. As for question study I would pick up Sybex or something. Definitly get some cheap routers and a switch. It enhances the material in the books if you can actually follow along with the real deal.

mcoxx,

If you want to learn this well - both to pass the test and to work as a CCNA then as Ghost said above - get some real Cisco routers.

You can pickup 3 2501 routers on Ebay and all the cables you need for great prices. Try to get routers with a max 16MEGS DRAM and 16MEGS FLASH and the lastest greatest IOS. Remember unless you have an active account at Cisco you can not just download the IOS. Do a searh in the router section at Ebay on "labs" and you might find some complete lab setups - routers, switches, cables, IOS, rack ears etc. .

You can also rent time on online Cisco router racks or go to the free one listed in this forum(I am sure he will post his free link shortly).

As far as books pick 2 different publishers, I always used Cisco Press and Sybex. Cisco Press goes into great detail, Sybex gives you just what you need to pass the exam.

I also like CBT Nuggets - videos with instructors lecturing on the different subjects with lots of examples and diagrams.

You also should get a good Router sim, the one from Cisco Press/Boson is one of the best.

I have done all of this and I passed the CCNA 607 and CCNA 801 exams 1st time I took them.

I hope this helps!

I went with the cisco press books (2 books series) which was much information, and a great understanding of the material. I suggest these books for best understanding/knowledge.

I then also got the Sybex one book which was condensed version of all the info on both the cisco press books. This was probably better for actual test taking, since things were boiled down better. It didnt cover as much though.

All in all, I very much enjoyed getting both Cisco Press and the Sybex books and feel it gave me a good learning.

I also used the Boson router simulators and also poked around online forums for tips, questions and info.

When it comes to test time, to me, it was alot of memorization...lots of stuff to know. You can do it, and good luck!

There is a Cisco Press ICND Study guide that is great if you are going to take the one test exam.
