Hi,

I have NTL broadband. Is this technology the same as ADSL/DSL. I want to buy a router. Also is broadband a digital or analogue signal?

I ask because i have a modem with my broadband. I was taught at school that a modem converts analogue to digital and I was under the impression braodband was digital, is it the same as ISDN?

thnks in advance

neil

ADSL/DSL are completely different to your "broadband".

Your cable modem works off of digital signal from your CATV company's headend. Chances are it's sent out on fiber, and is then multiplexed into RF signals, which are transmitted over CATV hardline. So there is some analog technology in there, but not directly related to what you're using it for.

ISDN or integrated services digital network is a telco technology, and does not apply here.

Your cable modem works off of modulating RF signals. It has a forward path (receive) and return path (transmit).

There are plenty of good sites you can find on that will explain how it works with diagrams.

Thanks I will check out google. I got a linksys router today and the guy from the shop says it works with cable/adsl or a dsl connection.

cheers,

neil
