hello
i just installed version 10 build 5520 (have been using arcserve 6 for nt, and brightstor 2000)
1)i tried a test backup of C: (some 4 gigs) but the report shows about a gig was backed up? how do i check or know that in fact all of c: was backed up? why would this discrepancy show up?
2)is formatting necessary on the LTO tapes (200 gig native)
it seems like it's not even an option?
thx for helping out a new user

In backup exec you can see what files where backed up by going to the restore window and select the backup you did and it will show you what files are backed up. If C: is 4gb and the b ackup log only shows 1gb there is a problem. Read the log to find out if anything was skipped. Usually if you dont have OFO (open file option) this would happen cause it cant backup the open files. Any more questions just post considering that I am a Backup Administrator.

thank you arsbargains
i am checking things out - maybe it's a problem backing up the windows folder even though i used OFO.
i did a restore of it to a folder on desktop and many files were missing in the total.
i am now trying the program files restore.
thanks again

well, same thing happens with prog files restore - missing data
i'm not sure what to make of it

hello lawnboy
i have checked every log (i have detailed file info etc)
there are no errors
i don't understand what the problem is but for the windows dir, the backed up files are 4078 (vs. 9195 listed under properties of the windows directory) and 440MB(vs. 1.25 gig)
Could it be a problem with using veritas snapshot provider?

hey Lawnboy
i was just reading another thread. I remember when i installed Backup exec that i opted to keep the OEM tape device driver - could some of my problems be caused by not using the veritas driver?
