New To ACCPAC

Hello ACCPAC Experts,
I am a reporting analyst and I was asked by my manager to develop financial reporting that pull data from various data sources including ACCPAC. I never used or accessed ACCPAC and I would like to get my handle on the back end data structure and what data is storef in every table so I can start building an ETL process that will grap the required data.
Our version is 5.4 and the DB is SQLSERVER.
My question is:
1) where should I start?
2) where to get documentation and access to the DB?
3) Best approach to access the back end without affecting production?

Is anybody out there pulling data from ACCPAC back end data who can shed some lights on the back end table and where to go about learning there structure.

I pull Accpac data from the back end for a living. You learn about it from looking at stock Crystal reports, and asking questions. There are no formal classes.
