Hiya All, We are looking at getting a new machine for our production DW (running Sybase IQ 12.4.3), we are migrating from an old Sun box to one of these:
IBM p630 (2x Power 4 1.45GHz, support for max 4 processors)
8GB RAM
or
Sun V880 (4x Sparc III 1.2Ghz, support for max 8 processors)
8GB RAM

Both machines have some local disk but will be connected to the same SAN (an IBM SAN). Data Warehouse is small at the moment (~40GB) but increasing quickly. Estimated final number of users is ~200. The machine does nightly delta loads and a weekend inital load (at this stage), we use ASE as a staging area and Datastage as our ETL tool

The problem is that both IBM and SUN have made very similar proposals and although we(or maybe I) would prefer SUN the IBM proposal throws in some expensive SAN upgrades for a very good price.

Which one would you choose? and why?

Thanks for your Help
