New SUSE install creates problem

Following a system upgrade to SUSE 9.2, including Apache 2, I now have the following issues:

.htaccess ignored
AllowOverride NONE needs to be changed here... BUT,
there is no htpasswd command installed... I assume this is SUSE's latest attempt to make me crazy; but, is there an easy solution here or do I juet need to compile Apache with options which include htpasswd?

ANY suggestions appreciated...
