I am working on a large document and I am using the master/subdocument method to integrate multiple documents in a single document.

It is impossible to know (or guess) in advance all the styles that I will need throughout this project.

Is there a way to have new styles that are introduced in a single subdocument made automatically available to the rest of the subdocuments?

I read Dreamboat's faq68-574. It's pretty useful but it does not address the issue of introducing a new style through a single subdocument, halfway through a project, and having that style be made available automatically to the rest of the subdocuments.

Thanks in advance for any advice that you may offer.

Here's what you need to do:

Create all of your sub/master docs using the same template. That way, when you change your style, you can go into Format-Style and choose the "modify" or "new", there's a button to "add to template".

Either that, or when you're all done your first subdoc, then copy all the styles to your template.

Generally, I create my first document, adding styles as I go. Then I save it, then I delete everything out of it (which does NOT delete the styles) and save it as a template. Then close the template. Then open the doc again, and attach it to the template (tools-templates and addins). All other documents should be based on (file, new, choose that template), or styles should be copied from (format, style, organizer), that template.

Hope it helps. dreamboat@nni.com
