HI All, I have a new SOE PCS 16. I loaded the 2.0 sftware and it went fine, then I tried to upgrade it to the 3.2.99,
then every thing went wrong and I got a red light.

I then went to the DTE port and did AT, AT-X, AT-X2 and AT-X3. That went good and got OK after all.
But I still have a red light on and can't get back in.

What can I do to fix this?

This what I get in the DTE port.

Programming FPGA ...
FPGA Version 89
Ethernet Switch: PortId=0520, PhyId1/2=01410C1F
P6 Loader 1.1
CPU Revision 0x0502

you have no firmware when you get the loader message without hitting the ESC key.
You need to upload it via bootp so if you retrieved the config once then you are ok with the bootp you have if not then make one, could also be that you need to use the default IP address to put into the bootp because you erased the config

OK, How would I go about putting the bootp back in the SOE?

It figures I erased to much. LOL

the bootp is in your manager
the entry has the MAC address teh IP address and the bin file for the SOE (ip401ng.bin) as information in it.
Should all that match then the SOE will download it and work again.
Sometimes it is a bit stubborn and has to be repeated but you will see on the bottom of the manager application that there is a bootp request and from what MAC address it comes in case that you do not have the bootp entry.
The bootp entry gets created automatically when you retrieve a configuration from an IPO so should you have done that from that particular box hten you have an entry with most likely the wrong IP address but the correct MAc and bin file information.
This is a FAQ that describes the steps again should I have been a bit confusing

OK thanks I will give it a try in the morning, My head is spinning now.
Thank you

I've tried to redownload the ip401ng.bin, but its not going.
and I tried it through the DTE port.
Is there a detail instruction on what should be done?

After I type AT-X it goes multi sector earse and OK,
then thats it, it doesn't request any files like it says
in DTE port maintenance

also the IP
check in manager and see what IP is polling for tftp requests.

do you have another dhcp server?
disconnect from your network and plug your laptop directly into the IPO

set your IP to a static IP of 192.168.42.x

make sure you set an IP in the field where you apply the MAC address in the manager app too. i set it to what ever the IP of the device is polling for TFTP

I am plugged directly in to the IPO and nothing else is plugged in.
I don't get any IP address and it say limited or no connectivity.

>I don't get any IP address

You won't get an IP address Ever.

Your SOE is borked - it has no firmware, as you have deleted it.

As HSM has already pointed out

>set your IP to a static IP of 192.168.42.x

Read the FAQ

This is, as has been pointed out, quite basic stuff.

Take Care

Matt
I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

How do I go about getting the mac address from the SOE?

HI all, thanks for all your help. I finally got back.

Oke now you have learned the DTE the hard way :)
When you have the time and opportunity try it again !
You will not use it very often but you need to know how it works in the field

I do have another SOE to pratice on and I can get into the DTE port, But the lan ports stopped working. It is PCS 6.

you really need to know how to DTE on site quickly.

Ive been on a site. SOE installed and configured. 5 minutes from leaving to go home. The final merge/reboot and bang. Config screwed up on the send back to the unit. luckly enough i had the serial cable still in the back of the unit. Just needed to reset everything and re-send the .bak file. was done in 10 minutes.

So you really need to know how to do it when you have a customer breathing down your neck "i thought it was ready"
Practice and practice!

Merry Christmas!
