Just finished this one...

Earth shattering design ;-) But it's clean and I quite like it.

Take a look and tell me what you think.

Can't change content, but if you see any speling erurs then let me know!

If anyone can work out how to get rid of the 1px glitch on the headings in IE then I'll send them a postcard!

Very nice! Nice color scheme, well laid out, easy to navigate.

Only things I see are:

1) I get a few validation errors from the w3c validator

2) If I go to the "Work with AES" section, then go to "Partners Area", I get a JS error in IE.

3) The contact us is a mailto link (is this part of the content you can't change?)

No, I forgot to mention that they didnt want any mail forms.
Oh well!

I might obfuscate the email addresses but it would have been easier with a form and I explained the drawbacks.

I'll have a look at the JS errors and validation. I thought I cleaned it all up but had to make a last minute change to make the Google Map work in IE.

Just had a quick look, and I think it works well! Nice clean layout, easy to get around.

The only small thing jumping out at me is that the logo links back to the home page even when you're already there, as does the "About AES" link. Hmm, actually I just noticed, all the links are still active, even when you're on the page already!

Hi

Only two things that looks amateurish for me :
- All decoration green images are background images excepting h1BGTR.gif
- One quotation mark image is content, the other is background image.

I do not like so much green. But I agree : is nice and clear. And it has good amount of text : enough to inform and not much to annoy.

Feherke.

That's a good thing, isn't it?!

Hmm, validation.

I ran this through a validator from my local machine and it was clean! I swear!
Best get fixing those.[blush]

Regarding the blasted h1BGTR.gif
fluid layout + gradient background on an element + 2 rounded corners = AARGHH!
You won't believe how much pain that bloody heading with rounded corners caused me. In the end the only way I could do it without slapping extra, empty markup in the layout was to drop one of the corners in as a content image.

Green. Corporate colour and I'm having a bit of a green period at the moment.

Links being active... I think consistency in navigation is absolutely critical.
By hiding the link to the current page completely you are more likely to confuse the user.
Likewise, by disabling some links here and other links there the extra code and logic becomes a pain quite quickly.
The navigational elements are all includes so it's easier to have 1 include or you kind of defeat the point of using them.

Can I ask, does the Google Map work in IE for everyone? I had one machine at work that it wouldn't show on due to, it seems, security policies and cookies.

A really nice clean looking design!

I seem to recall seeing that all links to the homepage should be in exactly the same form (SEO). I notice that the logo and 'About AES' both point to but the AES copyright link points to
As far as spelling goes, on the 'Interview tips' page you have used
As the 1st interview is drawing
You should use 'first' instead of '1st'.

I was also expecting the Web site Design link to be clickable on the name not the first bit

Regarding the 1px glitch, this is what is causing it:
In the end the only way I could do it without slapping extra, empty markup in the layout was to drop one of the corners in as a content image.

If you change the heading (inline for example sake only!) to:
Code:
<h1 style="border-top: none;"><img src="images/h1BGTR.gif" alt="" /><span>About AES - specialists in permanent recruitment solutions</span></h1>

It breaks the rounded corner image, but your 1px glitch is gone. I must say it doesn't look bad with only the bottom right corner rounded... (it directs the eye towards the content[wink]).

I think everyone covered everything else...
A little too green, but everything is functionally and cosmetically good!

Like everyone else, like the design, but a bit too green... maybe break it up with pictures spread out across the page instead of just in the left column.

Also, there's some menuing that pops in in later pages (Job Seekers and Work with AES) which I completely missed the first time around as the other main nav links don't have anything and there's a picture there in the secondary nav's place. Also, with the right column having links that stand out more, it takes the attention away from the left column quickly in my opinion.

But, you know what they say about opinions...

That's the idea. The right column basically just "calls out" stuff that's important for that section. So I guess it's working ;-)

Xgate - yeah I had it working nicely with just the one corner, but it needs both lol. I'm going to have another stab at it at some point

I'm still seeing validation errors on WDG and

I guess your use of two different links to the home page (as I mentioned earlier) is deliberate. As I'm a relative newbie could you explain what I'm missing?

It's because I'm not that bothered by it ;-)

Hmmm, my local validator is passing the pages but it seems that the W3C validator doesn't like images in blockquotes, which strikes me as odd.

Looks like I've got more work to do!

Not necessarily John.
I've got a link back to on each page with the logo.

I'm not that bothered that I have another link to on the page too.

In fact, 2 links pointing at the same URL on each page may well be worse.

I have to disagree. A link indicates that you're going to another page. If you're lost in a site, and you press a link that doesn't appear to go anywhere, you're going to be even more confused. Check this out for more info (scroll down to item #10)
