Hi there,

I have set up a RAID1 on a hp proliant dl320 g5 machine (2 80gb hd) and have installed windows server 2003.

I have in the existing directoy a dc which is running 2000 server.

Considering that all we use are applications for retailing which can be reinstalled on the new server. How should I go about adding the new server to the network and taking the old one off???

Thanks in advance

Roisin

You should probably start by posting this in the correct forum. Unless you are in an SBS 2000 network environment and looking to migrate to SBS2k3 or Win2k3.

But if you do not want to change your domain, I would prep your w2k domain for a w2k3 server and then dcpromo the w2k3 server, replicate active directory and then transfer the fsmo roles. FSMO roles can be transfered by running dcpromo on the w2k server which will demote it and transfer it's roles to the next AD server in the replication topology.

Search through these threads and google for what you need to do to add a w2k3 AD server to an existing AD domain.
