I just put in an Adaptec aha2940uu/w dual SCSI controller with 4.3 gig western digital SCSI drive,my goal is to move everything from my current C: to the new SCSI and call it C:,it shows up in device manager but not "My computer".What do I need to to make this as easy as possible?

Unless you are ghosting your current IDE drive you will have to re-install most applications on the new SCSI.

Have you adjusted your CMOS settings for the presence of the SCSI and if so have you slaved and mastered them when using them together in your computer. Two masters may cause your present difficulties.

Check your jumper settings on the back of each drive for slave and master options. Maybe one of your hard drives is set to CS. Also double check the ribbon connectors for proper orientation ( red trailer aligned closest to power plug on drive end and double check the same ribbon where it intersects with the AHA SCSI controller card plugged into your mobo )

What shows in fdisk? Should show as second hard drive or allow you to create a partition.
Suspect it will show in DM with a valid partition but not in the system until it is formatted. Never have checked so I'm guessing. Ed Fair

First I would like to point out message by chipdip (sorry if
this irritates you)

With SCSI they don't called master and slave. Instead they
have SCSI id (they usually call LUN, logic unit in short I think)
ranging from 0 to 7. In case of PCs I think they can only be
booted from lun0 (without any particular 'boot manager').
Even you have 'ghost' your present system to the SCSI, you
will have to manipulate the bois so it boots from the SCSI
device instead of the CD-ROM or the IDE drives and I think
you probably know how to do it.

Not to discourage you, I don't think it can boost performance
too much if you are using for window (98,2000/client). It will
do some good if used in server application. But if you are
financially OK, no harm buying SCSI. (Tell me if I am wrong
about the last paragraph)
