Hey folks!

So, in this time of avoiding a bunch of unnecessary costs, the old POS server PC at one of our locations decided to give up on us. It was running RES 4.11 on Windows XP, and rather than pay for the big software/hardware upgrade, i'm trying to get RES reinstalled. I have a copy of the DB backup, and I have a newer tower that i've done a clean install of XP on, I just can't seem to find the prereqs and installation files anywhere.

If we need to start from scratch with a new DB that's not ideal but it would be ok, as right now since we're closed (Covid times!). I have the time to take to rebuild the menu/touchscreens, but it would obviously be learning how to do it on the fly. But ideally if I can get the full RES 4.11 all set up and try to recover the DB that would be great. I've done clean format/reinstalls of the workstations so that wouldn't be a hurdle, just need to know the best process to getting the server set up.

Thanks for your help!

Hey fam,

To be honest, since you have the time for that, I would go to the latest MICROS version.

It is way much stable (not so much new features tbh) but I've been using RES3700 since V4.4 and there are plenty stability issues that gets solved with going over V5.X. I would only recommend you to get a 4GB of ram and you're good to go.

Besides, it costs zero to get those installers and it's way easier to install than RES4.X

You only need to convert the actual DB to a RES5.X db, which is pretty simple.

Lemme know if you would like to go with that option.

Upgrading to 5.5 or beyond would be best. Just curious. Does Oracle no longer charge a fee to upgrade to a newer major release....4.x to 5.x? They use to every time. I Canada at least.
