Sorry the first thread i done had bad grammer lol i've been up for days trying to figure this out .



Can someone help me out with installing applications on my Linux i am a striaght newb, only been useing it for like three weeks an every time i go to install a program i get nautilus doesnt have any viewers for this file, or file to big for nautilus to open "?s" are where can i get these viewers an how do i install the programs Help!!!!!!

You don't say what linux you have but, from the mention of nautilus, i'd guess its redhat 7.2 . On redhat (and most other linux distros), as a general rule you install software using the redhat package manager (rpm) or its gui front-ends, e.g. GnoRPM. You can see how to use GnoRPM at the bottom of this page --> . That section of the manual also describes the up2date agent, redhat network, etc.
If you have packages that come as whatever.tar.gz or similar then these could be either source code that needs to be compiled or pre-compiled binaries that don't. In general you would open a 'terminal' window and type commands :

$ cd /usr/download
$ tar zxvf whatever.tar.gz (creates subdirectory containing tarball contents)
$ cd whatever

and so on...
